About Theriome

From disconnected steps to one secure clinical workflow

Theriome offers an at home metabolomics test, marketed as the Aristotle test and ordered through healthcare practitioners. A practitioner orders the test for their patient, and the patient collects a small dried blood sample at home using a simple finger prick and ships it to the laboratory. The lab analyzes the sample using mass spectrometry to measure a large panel of metabolites, the small molecules that reflect what is actually happening in a person's metabolism. Those measurements are then scored across a set of health domains and delivered back to the ordering practitioner as a personalized metabolic health report for their patient.

The challenge

One test, many disconnected systems.

When MatrixFlow engaged, the work of moving a single test from order to finished report crossed many separate steps and systems: ordering and commerce, the patient health intake survey, outbound and return shipping, sample receipt at the lab, raw laboratory data, the scoring and report generation process, scientific review, and final report delivery to the practitioner.

Much of this lived in disconnected tools, and moving a case from one stage to the next required manual reconciliation. As testing volume grew, Theriome needed a system that could show exactly where each case stood, move data securely between systems, enforce scientific review before any report was released, and produce a consistent report every time.

Because the platform handled personal identity information alongside laboratory health data, security, access controls, and auditability had to be designed in from the start rather than added later.

The approach

Designed around the lifecycle of a single test.

MatrixFlow worked with Theriome to translate the real laboratory operation into a connected application and data architecture. Rather than treating the portal, the data pipelines, the report generation process, and the cloud infrastructure as separate projects, MatrixFlow designed the system around the full lifecycle of a single test, from the moment a practitioner orders a kit to the moment an approved report reaches them.

Order and intake

A practitioner orders a test for their patient, and the patient completes a health intake survey. The order and survey responses are captured and tied to the test using a single operational key that follows the sample through every later stage.

Kit and sample logistics

The system tracks the kit outbound to the patient and the sample on its return to the lab, pulling shipment milestones so staff and the ordering practitioner can see, at a glance, whether a kit has been delivered and whether a sample is on its way back.

Sample receipt and laboratory data

When the lab receives the sample and runs it through its analytical instruments, the resulting metabolite measurements are ingested, processed, and prepared for scoring, with the anonymized laboratory data kept separate from the patient's identity.

Report generation

A scoring engine turns the raw metabolite measurements into the patient's domain scores and overall result, and renders a finished, consistently formatted report. This entire step runs inside a self contained, ephemeral cloud container that is created to generate the report and destroyed immediately afterward, so sensitive data never leaves a tightly bounded environment. AI assisted insight content is generated within that same secured environment.

Scientific review and release

The generated report enters a review queue and stays invisible to the ordering practitioner until an authorized scientist approves it. The approval decision is recorded in the workflow and controls whether the report is ever released.

Delivery

Once approved, the report is made available to the ordering practitioner for secure download and review with their patient.

AWS and Snowflake infrastructure with encrypted storage, KMS, Secrets Manager, private workloads, least privilege access, logging, monitoring, and audit focused data controls.

The outcome

MatrixFlow delivered a production workflow that carries each test from practitioner order through analysis, scoring, scientific review, and secure delivery, replacing a collection of disconnected steps with one coordinated application and data architecture built around the lifecycle of a single test.

The redesigned report generation architecture also reduced the monthly infrastructure cost of that component by approximately 80 percent while creating a stronger containment boundary for sensitive personal data.

At the completion of the engagement, MatrixFlow completed a formal transition that included technical documentation, operational runbooks, knowledge transfer, credential rotation, and full application and infrastructure handoff, so Theriome's team could own and operate the system with confidence.

The project reflects MatrixFlow's broader approach to healthcare technology: understand how the operation actually works, then build the applications, data systems, automation, security, and infrastructure around that workflow.
